Countryside Retreat

Our clients envisioned a serene retreat that seamlessly blends modern and classic design elements. Inspired by a South Island home they admired during their travels, this rural property was designed as a calm and restful space.

The home’s layout features four connected pavilions: guest bedrooms, main living areas, primary suite, and garaging, all linked by flat-roofed corridors housing functional spaces like the entry, laundry, and library. Gable ceilings in the main living pavilion and primary suite add a sense of spaciousness, while the living pavilion extends toward the pool and bush, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor flow.

Natural materials like timber, stone, and wool, combined with a soft tonal palette, establish a soothing ambiance throughout. Classic dry-stacked stone walls in the entry and fireplace are paired with contemporary detailing, such as mitred frames and bespoke cabinetry. The kitchen balances practicality and luxury with its scullery, bar area, and a standout vertical wine display framed by stone walling and feature lighting.

Thoughtfully designed spaces cater to comfort and function. Glass doors in the guest wing maintain privacy while preserving a connection to the main living areas. Multi-user bathrooms ensure simultaneous use without compromising convenience. The reuse of furniture from the clients’ previous home enhances sustainability and familiarity, while textured elements, including packed walls and ledges, add character and opportunities for personal touches.

This home is a bespoke reflection of our clients' vision, blending modern elegance with timeless charm to create a space that prioritizes relaxation and tranquillity.
